A very Happy New Year to all.

1st January 2019

Children’s Liturgy

Children’s Mass will take place in Lower on Sunday, January 6. Practice for all children on Thursday, January 3 at 7pm. Children’s choir practice will take place on this date also at 7.30pm.

Mass Changes

The Saturday evening Mass will be in Upper for the first six months of 2019 starting on January 5 at 8.30pm.

Fundraiser

Shay Smith, Behey, will be fundraising over the next few months for the Sisters of Mercy in Mazabuka, Zambia. He will be travelling as part of a student immersion project with Breifne College, working for two weeks there with the Sisters of Mercy. Please support Shay in his endeavours with this project.

Lavey Ladies

The Club AGM will take place on Saturday, January 19 at 6.30pm in the Community Centre, Lower Lavey. Volunteers are needed for the upcoming season, to help coach teams and join the committee.
The Dinner Dance takes place on Friday, February 8 in the Hotel Kilmore at 8pm. Tickets are €30 and are available from any committee member or senior player.
The Club would like to thank everyone for participating and contributing towards the annual Christmas swim. A donation of €700 has been made to Virginia Cancer Care.

Enrolment for September 2019 is now taking place. Enrolment application forms for new entrants are available from the school by calling 049-4330549 between 9am-1pm Monday to Friday. Completed forms are to be returned to the school on or before Friday, February 1.

Sr. Mary Courtney

Sends her sincere thanks and wishes everyone God's Blessing for their generosity to the recent collection. A total of €1,100 was raised. She would also like to thank Killygarry Apostolic Society for their donation of €500 from their Christmas wreaths sales.

Tickets are available but selling fast, there will be no entry to the dinner dance without a ticket and you will not be able to pay on the night. There will be Mass before the dinner dance for the deceased members of Lavey GAA in Lower Lavey church at 7pm. Everyone welcome. Well done to Chris Conroy, Gerard Smith and the Cavan senior team on the victory over Roscommon in the Allianz League on Sunday last in Kingspan Breffni. They play Tyrone away on Saturday next, March 2.

The school launched their music CD on Wednesday, March 6 as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme 2019. Well done to the boys and girls of 5th and 6th class who produced a top class selection of songs sung by the children in the school. The CD can be purchased from the school at a cost of €10. Thanks to all who have supported this project.

Daffodil Day 2019

Irish Heart Foundation

In association with Abbott and ESB networks, offers free CPR training. Club Lavey will host three sessions on Saturday, April 6 in the Community Centre from 11am to 12 noon, 1pm to 2pm and 2.30pm to 3.30pm. This is open to everybody in the community. GAA

The senior team commenced their league campaign with a 2-16 to 1-16 win over Arva away on Sunday last. They play Killinkere in round 2 on Sunday, April 7 at New Inn at 1pm.
The junior team lost to Drumgoon away on Saturday by 3-16 to 1-8. They will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they play Shercock on Saturday, April 6 at New Inn at 5pm.

Co. Cavan Walking Festival May 3 - 10

Waterloo Lane heritage guided walk arranged for Tuesday, May 7 at 7pm. Choose the leisurely route starting from council quarry New Inn road or the uphill challenge starting from Carolan's shop. Refreshments at viewpoint. Open to all. Further information at cavan heritage website.

The senior team defeated Killinkere in round 2 of the league by 0-17 to 2-9 on Sunday last at New Inn. Their next game is against Butlersbridge away on Sunday, April 14 at 1pm.

The junior team had a win over Shercock by 4-9 to 2-11 on Saturday last also at New Inn. Their next game is away to Ballymachugh on Saturday, April 13 at 6pm.

Scor Information Evening

There will be an introductory meeting with a view to establishing a Scor Club in the Parish on Wednesday, May 8 at 8pm in Aughadreena NS. Scor officials from the G.A.A. will be in attendance to offer guidance and support. Please come along and join in - young and not so young! All are welcome.

Killyconnan NS

Congratulations to the pupils from 1st and 2nd classes who have won the Road Safety Authority award. Pupils will attend the awards ceremony in Dublin Castle followed by a trip to Dublin Zoo on Tuesday, May 7. They have also won €1,000 for their school. Well done to all.

The junior team had a narrow loss to Shercock by 2-18 to 4-11 in the Reserve Championship on Friday last in O'Hagan Park, Shercock.
The senior team finished their league campaign with a good win over Bailieborough by 4-12 t0 1-12 on Sunday last at New Inn. Their next competitive game will be against Cavan Gaels in the first round of the senior championship in early August. The U15 team play Bailieborough in the championship Thursday evening July 18 at New Inn at 7.30pm.

The Cavan Branch of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland is very grateful for the generous contribution of €325 at it’s recent annual Lavey church gate collection.

The senior team were defeated by Cavan Gaels by 4-17 to 1-15 in the first round of the senior championship on Saturday last in St. Felim’s Park, Drumalee. They play defending champions Castlerahan in the second round on Friday, August 9 in Kingspan Breffni at 8pm.

Professors and student group from Harvard University visited the pseudo - named area of "Waterloo" and to identify the final resting place of two soldiers named Pogue who survived the battle of Waterloo and returned as heroes to end their days at local Saunderson Lodge in Waterloo.
